2005 Senior Student Art Scholarship

The Scholarship Committee of the Marblehead Festival of Arts has awarded its 20th annual Festival Scholarship to Greg Tufts. He will attend University of Massachusetts, Amherst, where he plans to pursue a Bachelor of Music degree in music education with a concentration in voice. Teaching others to love and understand music is his goal. He believes attending U. Mass will best prepare him for this future as a music educator.
A 2005 graduate of Marblehead High School, Tufts has been interested in music since the fourth grade. He plays five different instruments, making him a valued member of the concert, marching and jazz bands. He has sung with the Northeast Senior District Choir, the ACDA All-State Honor Choir as well as the high school a cappella chamber choir.
Beginning in the eighth-grade and continuing into high school, Greg has participated in musical theater. His talents have been seen in Rebel Shakespeare, Marblehead Little Theatre, and Salem State performances. In 2003 Greg traveled to Stratford-on-Avon where he was involved in the study of Shakespeare and the Globe Theatre.
In recognition of his fine academic talents, Tufts has been acknowledged with the Colby Book Award, the Excellence in French Award and the World Cultures Award. For his artistic talents he was honored with the Director's Award for Band, the Drama Festival Semifinal Acting Award and many trophies for his performances in band and chorus.
