2009 Senior Student Art Scholarship

The Art Scholarship Committee is pleased to award this year’s annual Art Scholarship to Melissa Kornfeld of Marblehead. This fall, Melissa will be attending the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, majoring in Art.

Earlier this year, Melissa won a prestigious Gold Key award for her art portfolio in the Boston Globe’s Scholastic Art Awards competition, a prize given to only 150 of the 3500 Massachusetts students who submitted portfolios. She also received an Honorable Mention for an oil and pastel self-portrait in the same competition. During her high school career, Melissa was a member of the National Honor Society and the National Art Honor Society; and she was a member of the Rebel Shakespeare Company, appearing in important roles in the group’s productions of Twelfth Night and Richard III.
