The Milton Bloom Student Art Scholarship is a new program made possible by contributions donated to a special fund in memory of Milton Bloom, a Marblehead resident who, with his wife Arlene, was a long time supporter of the Marblehead Festival of Arts. The scholarships, intended to provide financial support to students interested in developing their artistic talents, are awarded to assist students in paying tuition for programs in the arts, which include fine arts, crafts, performing arts, and creative writing. Selection is based on artistic talent, accomplishments, and motivation.
The Marblehead Festival of Arts has awarded the first Milton Bloom Student Art Scholarship to Daniel Woolhiser of Swampscott. An eighth grade student at the Marblehead Community Charter Public School, Daniel won a Student Art Exhibit Outstanding Work Award for his sculpture during the 2009 Festival of Arts. His art interests are wide ranging, and he will use the scholarship award to attend classes in drawing and sculpture at the Museum of Fine Arts.
