Painting the Town 2004

Painting the town during Festival 2001.
Linda Goldberg painting the town during Festival 2001

Plein air painting is a French expression for painting outdoors. These fresh, often rapid works can capture the essence of a scene and the weather with a unique charm, unlike the more careful studies produced in a studio. Come see artists at work, capturing the scenic beauty of Marblehead on canvas and paper.

On one day during the Festival, plein air artists will be strategically located throughout downtown. You may happen upon them as you walk around town, or you may want to consult the location chart available at the King Hooper Mansion, home of the Marblehead Arts Association. While there, you also may view the members’ Summer Exhibit.

At day's end, the artists turn in their completed paintings to be exhibited and judged in the downstairs galleries of the Hooper Mansion. During the Festival, come and cast your vote for the People's Choice Award!

During the Festival, the public is invited to a Reception for the artists, and awards are presented. After the Festival, the paintings will remain on exhibit at the Hooper Mansion, and some will be available for purchase.
