Jon Oliver has spent nearly thirty years working to develop the
Lesson One program. A frequent workshop and conference presenter,
he has appeared on ABC’s World News Tonight and Dateline NBC,
as well as in publications such as USA TODAY. He has also been honored
by the White House. He lives in Marblehead, Massachusetts. Jon will
present a workshop based on his book co-authored with Michael Ryan:
The Skills We All Need But Were Never Taught, A Guide for Adults
and Kids.
One of the greatest challenges to our culture today is that far
too many children and adults are simply out of control. This chaos,
which affects not only schools but also family life and communities,
stems from the fact that many children lack the basic skills of
self-control, self-confidence, responsibility, problem solving,
and cooperation.
Drawing upon inspirational stories from his own life and thirty
years of teaching experience Jon provides a much-needed answer to
the violence and discipline problems that continue to grip our culture.
It gives adults and children alike a lesson plan that works for
life.
The book has received endorsements from Bill Cosby, Marian Wright
Edelman, President of the Children’s Defense Fund, Dr. James
Comer of Yale University, Dr. Alvin Poussaint of Harvard University,
Dr. Jane Healy, author and educational psychologist, and Peggy Charren,
Founder of Action for Children’s Television, among others.
