Em Marquis Brown painting the town for Festival 2008 |
Plein aire painting is a French expression for painting outdoors. These fresh, often rapid works can capture the essence of a scene and the weather with a unique charm, unlike the more careful studies produced in a studio.
On Thursday, July 3, plein aire artists were strategically located throughout downtown Marblehead, capturing the scenic beauty of Marblehead on canvas and paper. At day's end, artists turned in their works for inclusion in the Painting-the-Town Exhibit at the Marblehead Arts Association.
