These talented, young performers have honed their skill and auditioned for this performance through private lessons and extensive ensemble rehearsals. Ranging in age they will captivate and excite you with their performance. Come see these wonderful young artists!
1:15–2:15 PM
Multiple Guys with Noise Machines
R&B/Rock/Jazz
Multiple Guys with Noise Machines.
Multiple Guys With Noise Machines is more of a collective than a set band with members from all over the North Shore. The sound is different at every concert but has the same aspects of tight rhythms and creative horn lines and solos. The group playing today is the largest one yet, consisting of fifteen members including a back-up vocal section! MGw/NM are: Craig VanRemoortel, guitar, vocals & baritone sax; Davis Franklin, guitar & vocals; Liam Beaudoi, bass; Drew Faria, drums; Dan Peters, keyboard & vocals; Paul Wilkens, keyboard; Alex Walsh, guitar, vibes, keyboard, aux percussion & vocals, Ben Thorne tenor sax; Colin Senechal, alto & soprano sax; Ryan Noss, trombone; Conor Fitzpatrick, trumpet; Blake Larson, violin; with Anna VanRemoortel, Addy Sleeman & Julia Taliesin on backing vocals. All of the musicians are either in high school or have recently graduated.
The same "band" rarely plays together twice, let alone twice in a row, which says a lot about the flexibility of the group. The musical style of the group varies from show to show and includes jam band tunes, pop, fusion, jazz—they love them all— playing together and playing for other people that share a passion for music! If you’re looking for a new take on some classic songs and a few original tunes as well, check out Multiple Guys With Noise Machines!
2:30–3:30 PM

The MFoA/Boston Music Awards Night!
Boston Music Awards.
The Marblehead Festival of Arts is proud to align with the Boston Music Awards to present tonight line up. The Boston Music Awards (BMA) is THE showcase event for local area musician. Entering its 27th year, the Boston Music Awards event itself is less of a traditional awards show and more of rolling party with multiple stages and extended sets from nominated artists. The BMAs feature some of the region’s most compelling emerging and established talent from Garage to Rock to Pop to Blues Metal, Punk, Indie, Americana, International, Jazz, Hip Hop, RNB, Electronic, Folk and everything in between.
The Boston Music Awards
Who's BMA Eligible?
A musician, producer or industry professional who has strong ties to New England. They define strong ties as someone who is a New England native or has lived here for a substantial period of time who has actively worked or is actively working here.
What is the BMA Mission?
To bring together the music community of New England to honor its best and brightest performers while raising money for music charities to ensure our stages and studios are filled with talent for years to come. The event is the one time of year that the entire community can come together and celebrate our own. We also strive to generate regional and national exposure for nominated and winning artists.
Where Does the Money Go?
Since 2003, any proceeds from the event have gone to various music charities throughout New England. We have funded scholarships to Berklee, music education programs in schools, etc. Recently, we aligned with Music Drives Us, a non-profit that provides funding for music education programs. For the past few years the money to put on the BMAs and fund our charitable efforts has been raised exclusively through sponsorship and partnerships.
How Are Nominees Chosen?
Last year, we revamped our nominating and voting “Academy” to include over 150 active participants in all genres of the music community in New England. The Academy includes venue owners, booking agents, managers, writers/bloggers, DJs, program directors, music business owners, distributors, retailers, producers, publicists and others. We will continue to try to update and expand this list to ensure that it is truly representative of people who have their finger on the pulse of ALL music genres in Boston. The BMA office gets nomination requests throughout the year, which we pass on to the nominating committee. Nominees can be viewed and voted for here:bostonmusicawards.com/vote.
Who Votes for the Winners?
Once the ballot is created, the Academy votes for the winners. The Academy vote counts for 2/3, while the online public vote counts 1/3.
The MFoA/Boston Music Awards Night!
6:00–7:30 PM
Dennis Brennan Band
Soulful Blues, Roots Rock & The Baddest Musicians Around!
Dennis Brennan.
Local treasure and multi-Boston Music Award Winner Dennis Brennan could be considered Boston's own Leonard Cohen or Elvis Costello. His songwriting is respected by critics and musicians alike. Not only adept with the pen, Brennan is a highly accomplished performer known for his ability to span musical genres, styles, and era's with ease. His emotive and passionate voice is comfortable tackling classic country and R& B as well classic jazz, rock and blues. But it's really Brennan's originals that have set him apart.
The Chicago Sun Times described him as, "A rootsy, hard-edged rocker with the barroom soul of the pre-Woodstock Graham Parker and the unsparing insight of a working class poet." It's a fitting description if ever there was one. To the initiated faithful who attend every show, Dennis and his band have etched so many indelible magical moments on the local collective conscious that they return each week to see what will happen next.
These days find Brennan ripping it up with the best musician around including tonight’s line up of Duke Levine (BMA Winner) on guitar, Richard Gates on bass, Festival House Drummer (and legend) Dave Mattacks (DM) on drums. We’re thrilled to bring you the incredible Dennis Brennan Band!
8:00–10:30 PM*
David Maxwell & Maximum Blues
Blues
Dave Maxwell.
Boston Music Award Winner David Maxwell has amassed an enormous resume throughout the years playing piano with around the world with some of the greatest and well- known musicians in the blues. David plays many styles of blues, jazz and improvised music, but he is best known for his soulful virtuosity and unmatched ability to reach the heart of post-war Chicago Blues. His work has gained the respect of artists, critics and fans, has establishing a reputation as one of the finest blues pianists alive!
Maxwell is often compared to the great blues pianist Otis Spann (of the Muddy Waters band) for his ability to resurrect the spirit and sound of the master of post-war Chicago Blues Piano. But Maxwell is no mere imitation. He has created a style and sound uniquely his own. His diverse experience, technical virtuosity, sense of timing and rhythm, and ability to complement other band members has earned Maxwell a reputation as one of the finest blues pianists alive.
Performing tonight with Dave are some of the finest musicians around and include: Darrell Nulisch on vocals & harp, Monster Mike Welch on guitar, Marty Ballou on bass, Per Hanson on drums, with local favorites and Festival alumni Scott Aruda on trumpet and brother John Aruda on sax.
