Marblehead & Salem Schools of Music

Marblehead and Salem School of Music.
Steve & Jennifer Spungin, Marblehead & Salem Schools of Music owners and wonderful Friends of the Festival, are providing young musicians an opportunity to learn from talented, caring teachers in a local family environment. The school strives to provide a total musical experience for each student. Drawing on the wide-ranging talents of their teaching staff, they are able to match student and teacher based on a variety of criteria, including personality, learning style, goals and interests. Collaboration with other student musicians is part of the curriculum to showcase their skills, live, at a formal or informal recital, or in the recording studio.
Today, selected students Andrew Wanstall, Farrah Finn, Jack Krivit, Laurel Mulligan, Abigail Keenan, Annie Krivit, Maeve Reilly, Claire Vaucher, Annabelle Kearney, Davis Franklin, Drew Faria, Alicia Stransky, Robert Auld, Kyra Veprek, Gabby Spungin, and Sophia Spungin perform on the big stage at Crocker. It’s a wonderful chance for you to see up and coming musicians and the supportive environment of the Marblehead & Salem Schools of Music.

Super Prime
Alt/PopRock
Super Prime.
Super Prime
Sharp guitar riffs and hard-driving drums are at the center of Super Prime's heart: voices pouring into biting lyrics as cheekily irreverent as they are wistful and catchy. Borrowing from the frenetic pop punk and angsty emo of the nineties, Super Prime has evolved to epitomize today's pop punk genre: their music gets right up in your face, and then refuses to get out of your head.
Berklee classmates Austin Bond and Adam Newell met in spring 2010 in an ensemble course. The pair emerged as musical leaders and quickly recognized their sonic synergy. The duo dubbed them-selves Super Prime, and just like that, a shared lifelong dream to collaborate and compose original music was all happening, and fast. But with just two members—Austin on the bass and Adam shouldering the guitar and drum programming (and both sharing vocals)—it was clear they were missing a key ingredient. Then they discovered Sulene, a South African-born schoolmate with sweet and catchy guitar licks that rounded out their sound.
And we get to see and hear these break-out artists explode onto the scene. Catch them here before they hit the national circuit!

Marblehead Little Theatre
Pre-Show Vocal Performance ~ Show Tunes
Marblehead Little Theatre.
From one success by the drama committee of the Marblehead Woman's Club in 1955, came the birth of Marblehead Little Theatre. Now all these many years and performances later, we’re thrilled to welcome the Marblehead Little Theatre to the Crocker Park Stage performing selections from their summer season musicals, Hairspray and Richard Rodgers: The Sound of His Music. Hairspray is a musical with lyrics by Scott Wittman and music by Marc Shaiman is based on the 1988 John Waters film of the same name. The musical's original Broadway production opened on August 15, 2002 and won eight Tony Awards. Marblehead Little Theatre's production is directed by Steve Black with music direction by Lianne Goodwin and choreography by Lara Finn. Hairspray will run at Marblehead Little Theatre from June 23 - July 3rd. Following Hairspray, Marblehead Little Theatre is proud to present Richard Rodgers: The Sound of His Music, a musical review in two acts. Directed by Anne Lucas with music direction by Betty Lautner, the first act will include songs by collaborators Rodgers and Hart, and act two will include the songs of Rodgers and Hammerstein. Richard Rogers was one of the most successful and celebrated composers of the 20th century writing over 900 songs. His partnerships with lyricists Lorenz Hart and Oscar Hammerstein II resulted in dozens of hit musicals for the stage and screen, from Babes in Arms to The Sound of Music. Performances of "Richard Rodgers: The Sound of His Music will run from July 29th - August 7th. All performances of MLT's summer season will be presented at the MLT’s home on 12 School Street in Marblehead. Further information can be found at MLTLIVE.COM.
