(Handicap Entrance on Washington Square)
The rear entrance to Abbot Hall leads to the basement.
Abbot Hall is Marblehead’s town hall building. Its front entrance, at 188 Washington Street, has many steps leading to the first floor. The building and adjacent grounds are bordered on four sides by streets: Washington Street on the front side, and three streets on the other sides that comprise Washington Square

A handicap entrance is found on the opposite side of the building where a cement walkway slopes downward to a wheelchair accessible, basement entrance. A single, handicapped parking space is situated by this walkway.

The handicap entrance has an automatic door.
The rear door opens to a short hallway leading into the central area of the basement.
A short entrance hallway leads to the main hallway. To the right are restrooms. To the left, at the end of the hallway, is an elevator.
The central area of the basement has a hallway on the left leading to the elevator, and a hallway on the right leading to restrooms.

The auditorium is located on the second floor and houses the Painting, Drawing, Printmaking, and Crafts Exhibits.
The first floor has a central, main lobby; and several town administrative offices. In an alcove off the main lobby is a video presentation of the Photography Exhibit. The actual Photography Exhibit is in the Old Town House, which is not wheelchair accessible.

The Marblehead Historical Commission is situated on the first floor and it welcomes visitors. The painting, The Spirit of 76, is featured in the Selectman’s room, also on the first floor.
